Why does my cat hiss at me?

Why does my cat hiss at me?

Cats make a hissing noise which is thought to resemble a snake when they are asking to be left alone. In most cases this will be because you have startled them perhaps when they are eating or sleeping. In other cases excessive hissing when you pet your cat may suggest that they are in pain - you should see a vet if this behaviour persists.
